From student visas to intakes and job prospects—here’s everything you need to know before you apply.
You must have an admission letter (Offer Letter) from a recognized German university or higher education institution before applying for a student visa.
A German student visa is usually issued for 3–6 months initially and then converted into a residence permit, which is valid for the full duration of your course.
German student visas and residence permits allow multiple entries, so you can travel in and out of Germany and other Schengen countries during your studies.
Within 2 weeks of arrival in Germany, you must register your address at the Residents’ Registration Office (Einwohnermeldeamt) and apply for a residence permit at the Foreigners’ Office (Ausländerbehörde).
Required documents include your valid passport, admission letter, proof of sufficient funds (blocked account or scholarship), health insurance, biometric photos, visa application form, and academic certificates.
International students in Germany can work 120 full days or 240 half days per year. Internships related to your course may not count towards this limit.
Main admission intake for most undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Classes usually begin in September–October.
